PublishOne Reviews 2024 and Previews 2025

A year is a long time in the publishing industry – especially in the age of AI. As 2025 gets underway and our colleagues in Vietnam celebrate the Lunar New Year, we reflect on some of the key learnings from 2024. We also look ahead at what’s in store for technology and the publishing industry in 2025.

2024 in review

Here’s a recap of some of the key takeaways from 2024 for PublishOne and our customers:

Evolution in the education market

PublishOne has served the education market for the past decade or so. It began in 2015 with VAPRO who needed a multichannel solution for delivering workplace training courses and exams. More recently, we’ve seen many traditional publishing houses move into the training and education space, Berghauser Pont being a great example.

In 2024, we extended the reach and value of the friendly publishing platform in the education sector by joining forces with Learnosity – the digital assessment pioneer. This new partnership enables educators using PublishOne to create and publish fully interactive questions via a simple add-in to Microsoft Word.

Opportunities to listen and learn

In recent times, many of our clients have identified education and interactivity as key areas for product development. So we were thrilled at this year’s Advisory Council in Antwerp when Learnosity’s Martin McDonald revealed an AI-powered tool that works within the PublishOne environment.

As ever, the Executive Advisory Council was a great opportunity to listen and learn from our clients. Angelique Dorland’s demo of the learning journey platform aNewSpring perfectly demonstrated the opportunities for expanding our ecosystem and developing PublishOne as both a company and as a product.

Security sits front and center

Security is a major concern in any industry, and the publishing sector is no different, especially with the implementation of AI-powered tools. PublishOne – a 100% cloud-based publishing environment – is built on the Microsoft Azure Cloud.

Not only does our platform have a ton of security features built in as standard, your documents and data are also kept safe through additional layers of security covering both our internal systems and our customer-facing environments. Cloud architect and in-house security expert, Vien Le, gives a great overview of this in our blog: Inside The Security Features Of PublishOne

Technology is moving quickly

The current rate of change in the publishing industry and the wider world of technology means products and services can quickly fall behind. Traditional desktop apps are falling by the wayside for a number of reasons, especially in large-scale publishing operations.

One factor is the requirement for individual users to manually download and update a desktop product, which is an obvious security risk, and is not practical or efficient in terms of scalability. To satisfy the need for faster product updates and better security features, content publishers need cloud-based solutions for things like XML and DOCX conversion – something that’s been a part of PublishOne from the start. 2025 in preview

It’s no secret that publishing companies are looking carefully and strategically at how AI can enhance, automate, and streamline different aspects of their business. With that mindset comes the expectation that the digital tools they use will also leverage AI.

PublishOne has always been strong when it comes to integrations, and our ability to seamlessly integrate both existing and emerging digital tools is something our clients love. As a platform, PublishOne is already AI-ready, and a number of AI-powered tools can be integrated from Microsoft Copilot to translation modules (see more on AI integrations).

The next step of our journey is to bring AI directly into the platform – alongside integrations with third-party AI tools. The publishing world is particularly focussed on the impact of AI on the authoring process, and delivering content in different ways across multiple channels.

From a publishing perspective, research shows that Large Language Models (LLM) need short pieces of text that are self-contained whilst retaining their relationship to a bigger text, such as a book. The ability to create a large document, segment it, and publish it to multiple channels using XML schema is one of the strengths of PublishOne. It’s knowing this and other capabilities of the system that really brings value to our customers.

This year, we’re planning to strengthen the PublishOne community even further, enabling customers to share and exchange learning and ideas. At the same time, we’re exploring ways to make AI work for our customers in ways that add real value to their workflows and, ultimately, their end-users.
