Seamless Scholarly Publishing – A Vision

In scholarly publishing, the path from manuscript submission to final publication is often fragmented. Authors, editors, and publishers must navigate a web of disconnected platforms, each with its own processes and technical quirks. These inefficiencies slow content production, introduce errors, and create frustrating experiences for everyone involved.

At Manuscript Manager, we’re dedicated to simplifying one crucial part of this workflow: peer review. Our system streamlines the journey from manuscript submission to editorial decision, ensuring that high-quality research reaches its audience faster and with fewer hurdles. However, we recognize that peer review is just one part of a much wider process.

That’s where our new partnership with PublishOne comes in.

Bridging gaps in publishing workflows

Large-scale publishers that handle complex workflows rely on input from various external authors and specialist editorial teams. Ensuring consistency, accuracy, and efficiency across these stages isn’t easy – especially when there are gaps in the process or systems won’t communicate effectively with each other.

Many publishers – and their authors – stand to benefit from a truly end-to-end publishing workflow, where manuscripts move seamlessly from submission, through peer review, into layout, production, and multichannel distribution – all without unnecessary delays or data loss. But achieving this level of integration requires more than just great tools: it demands a well-thought-out collaboration between platforms that specialize in different aspects of the publishing process.

PublishOne x Manuscript Manager – what’s possible?

PublishOne has established itself as a leader in automating and centralizing content workflows. At the heart of The Friendly Publishing Platform is a powerful DOCX and XML converter that ensures content can be efficiently repurposed across multiple formats and channels. This shortens publication timelines and makes future revisions easy – you make changes once and they update everywhere.

By integrating Manuscript Manager’s peer review capabilities into PublishOne’s ecosystem, we can create a more connected publishing experience. For publishers, this partnership means:

  • Smoother transitions from peer review to production without manual reformatting.
  • Reduced workload for editorial teams by automating handovers between stages.
  • Enhanced flexibility to integrate with other digital tools used in the publishing world.

First steps in the partnership

As with any promising partnership, the best way to test its potential is through real-world applications. To that end, we’re currently exploring our first collaborative project with a Dutch publishing group, which is evaluating alternatives to its legacy peer review system.

This initial trial will help us refine our integration, ensuring that it delivers tangible benefits to publishers looking for a more unified workflow. While our collaboration with PublishOne is still in its early days, we see enormous potential. In the coming months, we’ll focus on:

  • Developing a streamlined XML output from Manuscript Manager to feed directly into PublishOne’s layout and publication technologies.
  • Exploring deeper integrations that allow for automated data exchanges between our tool and the PublishOne environment.
  • Gathering feedback from our trials to refine our approach and expand our capabilities together.

Driving efficiency through close collaboration

The demands on publishers are ever-growing and ever-changing. The pace of change is relentless – especially since more mainstream adoption of AI-powered technologies. The need for integrated, secure, and efficient publishing workflows has never been greater.

By working together, Manuscript Manager and PublishOne can help publishers stay ahead of the curve – reducing friction, improving quality, and ultimately making scholarly publishing – and similar activity in adjacent markets – more seamless than ever before.

We’re all excited about the potential of this partnership and look forward to sharing more updates as our partnership develops.
